Hi Dan
Thanks for stopping by.

If you consult the cycling guide, they show a 5-day trip from tip to tip. We have seen Avid cyclists do it in 2-3 days while others take 5 or 6. I guess it depends on your ability and your desire to take in some sights. Remember that the trail is "surfaced" in cinder or fine stone. While this makes a solid foundation, it offers more friction (resistance) than a paved roadway.

The Guide also goes from West to East which is probably why most passing through our B&B are going in that direction. I don't believe there is a prevailing wind, just that it is usually windy on PEI.

You will be travelling in June. The June occupancy rate is usually around 25%; the is usually no shortage of accommodations in early June. This being said, there are not very many accommodations close to the trail. If you review my previous posts on cycling, I have made a few references to accommodations. You can consult last year's trail guide. Beware, some of the accommodations listed may no longer be open and I have no idea when this year's guide will be published.

Reserve or not? That is a tough question. If you reserve, you are committed; rain, wind or mechanical breakdown cannot deter you from your goal. If you do not reserve, you may not be able to find accommodations where you decide to stop. We have 4 rooms at Trailside B&B. We are on the Confederation Trail at Route 2. It is about a half hour ride to downtown Charlottetown from here. So if that is in your plans, a 2-day stay could be an option.

Good luck in your plans.

My wife Hannah and I are biking from North Cape to East Point the first week in June.

We are 65 and fit but not super athletes. Is the prevailing wind from North Cape to East Point?

How long does it take bicyclists? We think we can do it in three or four days. Are we crazy?

Do you recommend getting B and B reservations ahead of time? That does restrict us from biking more if we feel up to it.

Any advice? Dan

Hi Elizabeth
I agree, it seems tourism marketing is geared towards daily and weekly rentals. If you are looking for an extended stay, you should probably use other tools such as http://pei.kijiji.ca/f-real-estate-short-term-rentals-W0QQCatIdZ42 . . . http://www.usedpei.com/classifieds/real-estate-rentals . . . or even contact property management firms or real estate agents.

I hope you find a suitable place to stay this summer. Let me know how your research goes.
