You can define the centre of Canada in many ways. There is. A sign on the trans Canada Highway at 96°48’35″W proclaiming the longitudinal centre of the Country. So a couple of hours ago we were as far from Newfoundland as we were from. Haida Gwaii. Unfortunately, there was construction and no advance warning so we did not get a picture.
This spot is about 20km East of Winnipeg. Watch for it if you are ever driving through.
So finally, we are out of Ontario. The 1400km countdown from Sault Ste Marie seemed like it would take forever. When we got to Manitoba, we saw a sign that said 450 or so kilometers and I suspect that this is the distance to the Saskatchewan border. Not quite as far to go with this time to cross another province.
We did make a slight detour into Westhawk lake just as we entered Manitoba and Cindy took some amazing pictures there. I hope she finds time to post a few on.2fromaway.ca.
Then we made our way into Winnipeg and found the new museum of human rights, a very impressive building indeed.
We also saw the golden boy.
Arguably, the most iconic feature of downtown Winnipeg. He has a colourful story in more ways than one, and he spent a lot of time at sea. . .
We looked for the smallest house in Winnipeg but we couldn’t find it.
Now we are taking a break and getting ready to hit the road tomorrow.
