Today we visited Leamington. We were about 2 weeks too late to see the monarch butterflies. But Cindy and I did find a cup of beach glass: -)
We passed by the recently closed HEINZ57 Plant
This is a huge plant that has spread to the other side of the road, joined by overhead walkways. You can’t fully appreciate its size from this picture. The plant has employed hundreds of employees for over 50 years. So much the demand that everybody around Leamington grows tomatoes for HEINZ. What will they do now?
Next, we followed the wine trail West to the edge of lake Erie. We discovered that winter was harsh there and some wineries lost all their plants. We did buy and excellent fruity wine from the area.
Then we followed the explorer trail along the Detroit river. I also call this the bootlegger trail because Al Capone used to come to the Windsor area to get liquor during prohibition.
Tonight we make the executive decision: go to Detroit and drive around the 2 lakes, or turn heels and aim for northern Ontario.
